New students walking into the Great Hall might expect it to look just as it did the night before: warm, inviting, displaying the weather outside. Elder and returning students, however, knew better. Around Christmas, the hall was decorated so extravagantly one might think that royalty is dropping by for a visit. Which is more or less true, because the house-elves and professors around here do dress to impress ... heh. Suits of armor line the walls, belting out Christmas carols to anyone passing them. Icicles drip from every place possible, snow trickles down from the sky overhead. Figures sculpted from ice adorn the room. Miniscule fairies dart about the room, sprinkling dust among the more 'frisky' couples. At the very end of the hall is a medium-sized stage where a wizard rock band stands, blasting out their music for the entire castle to hear. The long tables have disappeared -- and in their places sit dozens of tinier, round tables. There are several refreshment tables, where students retreat to for a drink after an exhausting workout on the dancefloor. THAT'S RIGHT, FOLKS! It's the YULE BALL! It's been a tradition at Hogwarts for several years, and will remain so until it crumbles to the ground. It's a time for students and faculty to interact, to have a good time, and to meet that special someone. It is a FORMAL ball, so you better look your best! ... NOOOOOW POST!

Eric Blaze came down the staircase, attempting to avoid all these love sick losers at all costs. He smirked as he saw all the traditional dress robes around him. Who even does traditional? Eric chose to wear black jeans, with a black buttoned down shirt, untucked with a Slytherin color based tie. That was how he worked style. Smirking, he pushed past people and walked in to the Great Hall. Eric gazed at the stage, noting the band, his eyes examining the drummer, not Mike which was a relief. He knew Mike had been trying to convince the teachers to let him be the drummer of the band for the dance. Well... there was always a chance a little later, hope he doesn't end up here, Eric thought, Mike sucks at drumming anyways.
Eric strolled over to the refreshment table, pouring a glass of butterbeer, he leaned back against the table, gazing around to see if he could spot any girls he'd consider dancing with or even making out with after the dance was over, if he was lucky something better. He spotted a few ladies, of course with guys, no worries, Eric would get them to dance one way or the other by the end of tonight. He strolled over to a round table in the corner where no one sat, he leaned his chair back, examining some of the dancers.

Audrey Hitchcock stood on the bottom step of the Grand Staircase, looking for Mike. Her long, wavy read hair was pulled half back with sparkling snowflake clips. The stones were all perfect white diamonds. They set had belonged to Audrey's grandmother when she was younger than Audrey was now.
The girl nervously ran her hand down the front of her emerald formal dress. The silk was rouched tightly along the corset-like bodice in an appealing fashion. The straps were placed perfectly across the crests of her shoulders. The skirt fell down to the floor from her hips, just covering her silver heels. It was beyond her as to why she even wore them, considering you couldn't see them. Oh well.
Where is he? she asked herself. Audrey was even a little later than what they had talked about, but for some reason, Mike wasn't there yet. She tried to get even further on her tippy toes to see above the crowd and nearly tipped right off the step. Audrey casually gripped the railing so hard her knuckles turned white. She refused to make a spectacle of herself in a formal dress. The hand that wasn't gripping the railing found it's way to a strand of her long red hair and began to wind and unwind it around her fingers relentlessly. Where is he?

Mike who of course, like always had been sleeping only to realize the time, was now just finishing getting ready. He pulled on some black slacks, and then pulled on his white collared shirt, with a Ravenclaw colored tie loosely around his neck. He knew Audj would probably complain about it, but he'd fix it for her, if he had to. The Blaze boys were never ones for going along with the traditional wear. Mike was wearing what he would've if he had been allowed to play in the band for the dance.
Exiting his common room he rushed down the Grand Staircase past many stragglers. Only answering the many hellos with a nod. He finally came out on to the last landing before the last few steps to the bottom. Looking around for Audrey he didn't see her until at las he looked at the bottom step spotting her at once. Damn, she looked beautiful. Buttoning the last button on his shirt, he slowly walked down the steps. Grinning as he came down, checking her out all over, he came down the steps right behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "My lady looks gorgeous as always." he said, leaning in and kissing her on the cheek.

Moki was a dancer. She'd been doing it for as long as she could remember, from young childhood on. It was the one thing she believed she truly had a talent for. Everything else in life she had she worked her ass off for, but dancing... it just came from inside her, effortlessly, but beautifully. It was why, every time she heard of something like the Yule Ball, her eyes sparkled a little brighter and her smile became a little wider in the days prior to the event.
Of course, the dressing up didn't hurt either. Her favorite color was blue. Deep, rich cerulean blue... she could stare at it all day. She had stared at that dress for an absurd amount of time as it hung on the outside of her closet so she could feast her eyes on that color.
Tonight was the night. Clad in what she was convinced was the most beautiful dress she had ever put on, she entered the Great Hall. Even though she was alone, she wasn't self-conscious. This was the one place she would never foubt herself... the dance floor. With her dark hair pulled up into curls behind her head, a few loose strands hanging down and long silver earrings, she smiled as she entered the room.
Glancing around, she noticed Audrey, no doubt looking for Mike, amongst a few other people she'd seen around but had never formally met. A Slytherin she recognized was standing by the refreshment table, scoping out the scene. She didn't know him. A song began to play - she listened. Yeah, that would do. Without waiting for somebody to bring the party to her, she stepped onto the dance floor.

Grinning as he came down, checking her out all over, he came down the steps right behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "My lady looks gorgeous as always." he said, leaning in and kissing her on the cheek.
Audrey's face bloomed into an enormous smile. Turning around in his arms, careful not to slip off the step, she kissed him on the lips. "Michael Ashton Blaze. You're late," she commented. Pushing him away from her body for a second, she inspected his attire. "And under dressed." Her hands found their way to his tie and tightened it for him. She made a face at him. "This is the Yule Ball. You couldn't put on some decent dress robes?" Of course, Audrey didn't care, not really, but it would've been nice to see Mike in something a bit dressier than what he was wearing currently.
Sighing, she kissed his cheek and stepped down. "Let's go dance?" Audrey had never really seen Mike dance, but surely he could move with the beat. Even if he just did the old swaying side to side move. If all else failed, Audrey would sneak a dance with Hunter. She knew for a fact that he could dance. Grabbing Mike's hand, she pulled the boy close to her and kissed him, deeply. Smiling, she said in a voice similar to that of some of the more snotty professors, "Tonight shall be marvelous, darling."

"I do apologize." Mike said kissing her back, "Was late getting out of bed, as always." he confessed, shrugging put on an innocent smile. Mike had completely predicted her comment on him being undressed. "You know I don't like Dress Robes." he said laughing, "But hey, I did put a good shirt, pants, and tie on to look good for my girl." he shook his head in a joking way as she began to tighten his tie.
As Audrey pulled him closer, he wrapped his arms around her again. He returned her kiss with his own, Mike could never get enough of her lips, they had the best taste over. "It shall." Mike answered to her when she said today would be marvelous. Kissing her on the lips once more, he pulled away, offering his arm. "Shall we?"

Brushing past his dress robes George pulled out the black tux from his wardrobe George and frowned slightly at the sight of it. It remained hidden at the back of his wardrobe for much of the year and was only brought out for special occasions. Next to it laid a few ties that came out even less than the tux. George would have been happier to dress in jeans and a shirt but you were expected to dress up so unfortunately the tux has to come out and play. Slipping on his trousers George searched through his many shirts attempting to decide which one to wear. His mother was always buying them for him many were hung in his wardrobe unworn. Deciding to keep things simple George pulled out a black shirt and put it on leaving a couple of buttons at the top undone.
Slipping on the jacket George was surprised at the fit. It had always been a little too big but now it was fitting like a glove. That made him feel slightly better about the whole suit-wearing conundrum. At least he wasn’t female and had to worry about picking out a dress and spending hours on hair and makeup. His hair was slightly damp from his shower so pushing his fingertips through his hair soon sorted it out. Taking a look at himself in the mirror George couldn’t help but chuckle. He felt like quite the dork but was glad that he wasn’t wearing a tie he would have felt a little worse then.
George needed to stop his whining because he was going to be stuck in that suit all night. He’d received plenty of compliments when dressed in a suit but that still didn’t help him feel any better about it, he just felt so awkward. Closing the door behind himself George walking himself down the stairs to the great hall. The decoration of the great hall was certainly amazing and always managed to bring the winter inside. For a muggle it would take an age to pull that off luckily it was a school full of wizards and the decoration took nothing more than a few flicks of a wand. George was still amazed by the decorations even if this was his fifth Yule ball.
Walking into the great hall George expected to see a lot more people but then again the party had only just started. Standing in the doorway for a moment George had a a quick look around. Unsure of what to do next he made his way over to the refreshments table and pulled himself a cup of punch. Sitting down at one of the small tables George sipped at his drink while wondering what to do. There were two people he knew Moki who was occupied with someone who seemed like his girlfriend and Moki. Catching her eye George smiled politely before finishing off the little bit of drink left in the cup.

Eric finished what had to be his fourth, fifth glass of Butterbeer. He set the glass on the table and glanced around. A few girls he and there, then he realized what he was really looking for, or who. Watson, she had to be here somewhere, Eric thought to himself. He saw a few people he knew now, Moki who was a Slytherin, she was just too... eh what's the word, peppy maybe, for him. Then there was this George fellow, he knew the name, knew the face, didn't know him or for the matter, didn't want to know him. Then he saw of course, his cousin and his girlfriend, the kinda hot one, Audrey or something, he was pretty sure that was her name. He still didn't see Watson.
Strolling across the dance floor, not bothering to move carefully past the dancers, bumping in to a few of them, not completely accidental. He made it to the main door, passing Mike and Audrey. He glanced around the Entrance Hall, still not seeing her. She said she'd be here, but she wasn't. Did she blow him off? Running a hand through his hair, leaning against the nearest wall, eyes glued to the top of the staircase. Maybe she'd come late, who knows? His heart was racing slightly.

Watson took a deep breath as she leaned over the railing, staring down into the entrance hall. Eric was standing there, undoubtedly waiting for her. She walked calmly and gracefully to the top of the stares, layed her gloved hand lightly on the railing and floated down the steps slowly.
She felt odd in this sort of attire. She wore a deep green satin dress. It was short, falling mid-thigh on her thin legs. It wasn't too low cut in the front; more swooped down gently, just below her collar bones. In the back however, plunged all the way down her back. She wore brand new black converse. She felt more comfortable in them than in heels, although she needed the height. Her arms and hands were covered in full length, black satin gloves. Her hair was straight, as usual, hanging loosly down her back.
She stepped down to the last step, standing there, looking at Eric from under thick black eye lashes. Her green eyes sparkled brilliantly.
"Hey," she told him confincingly confident. Her heart pounded, but she was easy at hiding shear nervousness. She smiled slightly, flashing white teeth between her glossy lips. "You look...hot," she laughed. "And how do I look," she said, stepping off last step and turning around slowly.

Eric turned his head away for a moment, sighing, maybe she wasn't coming. He was just about to turn back in to the Great Hall when something caught his eye. His head turning quickly to look at the top of the staircase he saw Watson making her way down. His heart began pounding fast, wow, she looked amazing. Stepping away from the wall, he walked slowly, closer to the bottom of the staircase.
As she approached him, he returned her hey with his own, "Hey..." he said slowly, breathing slowly. He smirked when she told him he looked hot. "You look..." he said, checking her out fully as she turned. "Amazing" he finished with a grin. Any word that was related to beautiful could describe her, pretty, gorgeous, hot, sexy, everything. He grinned again, "I am one lucky, lucky guy." he said with a nod, looking her over again.

Kissing her on the lips once more, he pulled away, offering his arm. "Shall we?"
Audrey smiled at her boyfriend. "We shall." Gracefully winding her arm in his, the couple walked into the Great Hall. The girl looked around at the small crowd. It was odd for there to be so few people here, but she knew that everyone would show up.....eventually. The few people that were already there, mostly looked familiar. There was Moki, whom she recognized from several classes, though she'd never really spoken to her. George, who she was pretty sure was in one of her classes at least was there. And, of course, posted by the refreshments was Eric Blaze: scumbag of the year nominee and favorite to win. Audrey turned back to Mike, whispered, "Evil cousin, ten o'clock," and kissed him on the cheek. (To diguise the whisper, you know? Pssh....yeah right.)
The redhead grabbed Mike's arm and pulled him on the dance floor, grinning all the while. Moki was already out here, and Audrey wasn't afraid to dance where people could see her. Wasn't that kind of the point? "Ready to dance?" she asked, though they were already on the floor. It would look ridiculous for them to walk right back off. Audrey grabbe Mike's tie and pulled him as close as they could get with clothes on. He was not getting out of this one.

"Thanks," Watson sighed. She reached her hand toward him, expecting him to take it. She was sure he would. "So, you ready to...dance???" She questioned. Dancing was something she wasn't sure she could do. And she was more uncertain about Eric'c dancing ability. Thats was nerve-wracking. She was at the YULE BALL with a FIFTH YEAR!! She COULD NOT look like an idiot. She refused to allow it. This was her chance to make something of herself. This was her chance to make herself known in Hogwarts.
"Shall we?" Watson motioned to the big double doors.

As Mike walked beside Audrey, he looked around to see if he spotted anyone familiar. He saw Moki who he didn't know very well, she had introduced herself to him in one his classes, and he had various encounters with her. He saw George who Mike knew as a pretty good guy, a Ravenclaw as well, a year younger than himself. When Audrey turned to him, alerting him of his cousin, he nodded. "I see him." he said quietly in reply to her, watching Eric curiously, who had moved from the refreshment table to the Hall where he now stood with a young pretty girl, who looked to be... a first year? What the hell was Eric playing at now? If Mike was not committed to Audj at this time, he give no thought to going over to Eric and seeing what was up.
As Audrey pulled him on to the dance floor, a slow song came on. Mike who didn't exactly enjoy dancing, still liked slow dancing, was easy for him, and plus, allowed him to get close to Audrey in public without many questions rising or weird looks coming their way. "I suppose so." Mike said laughing slowly, at Audrey's questions. As she pulled him close by his tie, he wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her closer to him.
