I always have trouble coming up with names for my characters, both in RPs and in regular writing, so I was wondering how you all came up with your characters' names.
For this site, I just took two different names from different places and put them together, haha. I took Rita from a character on Dexter, and Hall from Steven Hall, the author of my favorite book, The Raw Shark Texts.

Well my character use to be named John Blaze, John idk how I got. Blaze, I thought of fire. But then I found out John Blaze was the name of the Ghost Rider, so I just changed John to Mike. I know this wasn't much help to your question, but eh, just take names you like. And Mike's middle name, Ashton, heard it off a few shows and name of Ashton Kutcher, and Ashton just sounds like an Austrailian type name, and Mike is from Austrailia, so yeah

Post by Katelynn Creperum on Jan 4, 2009 19:32:05 GMT -5
WELL I HAVE SEVERAL CHARACTERS LET ME SEE.
Katelynn hurr, weeeeelll ... I used to know the meaning of her first and last name, although originally her last name was "Immitis" (which is some form of "rude"). Not sure what Katelynn means, but "Creperum" is Latin for "dark" or some shizzle. This last name was originally the name of another character I have, William Creperum, but I decided to mix it up. >_>
THOMAS MIDDLETON. Thomas is the name of one of my favorite characters from the series, A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. Middleton is the last name of a character from there, also. xD
ALFRED DOOHINGER. Ain't gonna lie, this was totally random. <_< I was just like "UHHH UHHHHH" and shouting random names to whoever I was talking to on AIM at the time (Cory, I believe). Coincidentally, I am using Richard Harris as my celeb, and he was the original Dumbledore, whose initials are A.D. THOSE ARE ALFRED'S, TOO! Talk about awesomeness.
AND YEAH AS YOU CAN SEE, I differ on my methods. Sometimes I get really specific and have to know the meaning of my character's name and get it just right to fit their personality and whatnot. But other times, I just pull things out of my ass. Figuratively, of course.

I think of names a lot like you guys - things just pop into my head, or I look at other things I like, like characters on TV shows, friends I know who have sweet first or last names, books I've read, etc.
I got Abe's name in a sort of stupid way - I sat across from this boy named Abram in a class last semester. 1) He was hot, lol (I'm a girl, b-t-dubz), and 2) I thought the name was really neat, so I figured I'd use that. I picked Cohen just because I really like that last name and Abram is a really Jewish first name so I figured I'd pick one to match, xD.
That's it. Not very exciting. I just sort of pull stuff out of my ass too, haha. I love names.

Post by Addison Houseworth on Jan 5, 2009 1:30:12 GMT -5
Herrrm. Let's see. I have three different characters hurrr. (:
This one, Addison Houseworth. The very first time I ever made a character named Addison was a LONG time ago, when she started out as Addison Rivers. I got Addison because that same day I had been in Hot Topic and saw a man who worked there named Addison, and pretty much decided it was the most awesome name ever & that I would name my character that when I got home to join my cousin's site. Houseworth is my boyfriend's step-brother's last name. I think it's hilarious, because everyone at school (yes, I still go to school with his step-brother) calls him House. Lol. Hehe, like the TV show.. yea.. aaaaanyway.
Carsyn Brothers. Carsyn is the name of a guy I used to work with back when I worked in the local Baskin Robbins. I always liked his name and loved to random sing it while I was working. Sometimes we liked to pretend like we worked in Coldstone and would sing when we got tips, and I would take any song and put his name in it. Of course it was spelled Carson, and I put a spin on it, wanting it to look more 'girly'. Brothers was the last name of my favorite teacher from Elementary School. I never had her, because she was the librarian until my younger siblings went there and then she became a third grade teacher!
My final character, Jorden Rivers. I have a character on my own site, Always Hogwarts, named Jorden Black, and I got so used to typing in the name that when I got here I just decided to use it. But Jordan Black is one of my boyfriend's best friends, and one of his three roommates at college for both this year and next year, so I took the name after hearing it repetitively and thinking it sounded like a good name for a HP roleplay, and changed it to Jorden so that I technically did NOT steal his name.
There ya have it. Randomness. (:

Oh & Btw, I plan to name my children Addison Mae & James Alan. (: If you're on AH also, you know that James Alan is the name of one of my characters there, and Mae is Addison's middle name. But I'm naming Addison Mae because Addison is awesome and Mae is my grandmother's middle name. (her first name has already been used by a family member) James Alan because James is my Papaw's name and Alan is my boyfriend's middle name, his Dad's name, and both my brother Casey & my Dad's middle names. But my Dad & Casey spell theirs Allen. Lol.

Post by Katarina Devanport on Jan 5, 2009 11:52:28 GMT -5
Katarina actually has an interesting story. LOL! Okay, so it's not THAT interesting; but yeah. I originally came up with the name Katarina for a character in a movie that I was writing. That character had a twin (Who's name I already knew was going to be Sebastian- my favorite boy's name.) So, I decided that I was going to name his twin sister something Shakespearean to create a link between the two of them. (Sebastian is from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night and Katarina is from Taming of the Shrew) Hence the birth of Katarina Annalyse Raleigh.
When I joined CBTS, there was no character I could think of that was more appropriate than Kat. However, Kat Raleigh wasn't the girl I needed. In my mind her story had already been told. So I changed her name from Katarina Annalyse Raleigh to Katarina Selene Devanport (Selene is from the movie Underworld and I have no idea where I pulled Devanport out of) and changed some personality traits and voila- I have Katarina Selene Devanport.
Yeah, my mind works in very odd and mysterious ways..

Post by Natalie Amelia Summers on Jan 14, 2009 7:36:40 GMT -5
I've had the name 'Natalie Summers' for my character for almost two years now and it was actually a short story.
It was a SUMMER day when I first thought of a name, but I didn't like it as a first name so I made it sound like a last name. TADAAAA. SUMMERS was born. Then as I thought of a first name, I saw a shoebox from afar because my older sister was cleaning stuff nearby and stuff and it read 'NATASHA' which is a local brand of shoes. It was a little far away so I read it as NATALIE for some odd bizarre reason. Then I stuck with it ever since. So technically, I got her name from a SHOE.
As for Cassandra Chase... I don't really know. I just wanted her initials to be CC and so I thought SHIZZAM! Cassandra Chase.
waaahaha. xD

Mine was spontaneous. I wanted an Asian char and I'm Japan-obsessed and speak Japanese to my friends who either (1) don't understand and get pissed off at me or (2) laugh hysterically at my grammar which sometimes leads to me saying very strange and unusual things by accident. I'm learning, okay?!?! Anyway, Kagawa is a really typical Japanese last name (that I can actually write so... brownie points in my book) and I decided randomly that my character should be half British since we're going to Hogwarts so we have to have some sort of European tie of course, hahaha. Anyway, I made up her family history on the spot and decided that I would call her Moki because it wasn't a Japanese name but sounds like it is if you don't know any better. It's actually just a cross between two syllables of what I named her parents. Hahaha. Sneaky me. And yep. This actually caused some confusion when making my siggy because I wasn't sure if a name that was half-Japanese would have a dot in between the first and last name when you write it in Japanese script. I still don't know. I went with yes because it seemed logical (you do that for Western names so the Japanese people know when the first name ends and the last name begins) and it looked neat. Aren't I lame? What a geek.

Death! ^_^ ... Stop giving me that look. There is a perfectly wonderful explanation for my random outburst of "death". "Decessum" is Latin for death, and the term fits Amelia very well -- both her history and personality. Amelia is probably my favourite female name ever... I don't know why, though; it just fascinates me, I guess. Originally, Elizabeth was her name and Amelia was her younger sister, but Elizabeth is such a common name and I did rather like Amelia better. Dante Blair: Dante is a really nice name. xD It makes me think of... dark stuff, I guess... in a poetic way, I mean. Blair is an Irish name; I have a friend with the last name Blair, too, and Blair is just a nice name. Yep, me and my boring characters. xD

I would really like to tell you guys I have some amazing back story when it comes to the character name. But, I honestly don't. I was quite bored with common names and I think I've RPed long enough to have used the name "Cole", "David", etc. one too many times, so, I simply googled for unique names and pick the first name that caught my attention which happens to be Aaric. Of course, the name "McLurcan", I don't exactly remember where I got it from, I'm almost sure it's from some random celebrity, but it's been in my head for so long it had been somewhat a familiar name. So, that's that, the story behind my name: Aaric McLurcan. I haven't a middle name just yet, I can't decide whether I want one, if I ever decide on it, it's probably going to be between; "Hyperion" or "Cladeus", I'm a little too tired of 'common names'....

Hahahahaha, yeah. IT'D BE SO FUN MAN. Which is why I look forward to getting new pets, just so I can name them. >_>
OKAY SO WE HAVE LITTLE REGGIE HERE. I actually looked up the meaning to his name. Reginald is Old English, and it means "a wise and powerful ruler". I thought it was sorta funny in a nerdy way because Reggie is sorta like, the complete opposite. He's tiny and weak and scared and shizzle. As for his last name, Lancelot, it means "a spear or lance attendant. The most famous of King Arthur's knights". Once again, it is contradictory to his personality. I also found it amusing because, ya know, Lancelot? >_> ANYWAYS YEAH. HERE YOU ARE. *random*
