Rita was getting restless. It was a hot, late August day and she had absolutely nothing to do. Most of her friends hadn't returned to Hogwarts from summer break yet, and the few who were back were all busy doing last-minute school shopping at Diagon Alley. Rita had gotten her shopping done long ago; as soon as the owl had arrived at her house with the list, her mother had insisted that they go shopping together the very next day. That was one thing that Rita had definitely not inherited from her mother; while Adele liked to get everything done as quickly and efficiently as possible, Rita was a major procrastinator. If only I'd convinced Mum to let me shop on my own, she thought, then I could be at Diagon Alley with friends now. She sighed, slightly disappointed at being left on her own, but shrugged it off, knowing there was no point in getting upset over something so trivial.
Maybe I should...go look around...or something, Rita said to herself. She felt slightly embarrassed at how her mind had phrased that thought; having spent three years at Hogwarts, she'd had plenty of time to "look around" the castle- then again, she was sure there were many places she'd never really been to or spent time in, as well as others that she had yet to uncover. Hogwarts was a big castle- big and full of secrets, just like the hair of this girl in that one Muggle movie Rita had seen once. That was a good movie...I'd watch it again, but I forgot what it was called...Angry Girls, or something, she thought. Unable to remember the title, Rita figured there was no sense in pursuing the matter any further, even if it was only in her own head. Getting up out of the armchair she was in, she left the Hufflepuff common room and headed up one of the staircases.
She dashed up the stairs, nearly tripping about five times. She passed the first floor- there wasn't much there other than classrooms- and the second floor. Once she reached the third floor, she got off the staircase just in time; as soon as she reached the landing, the stairs began to move. Rita sighed with relief- ever since she'd fallen off a moving staircase in her first year, being stuck on one or even seeing one move never ceased to terrify her. I got lucky this time, she said to herself, heading out into the corridor.
Skipping down the corridor (which wasn't something she normally did, but there were no people around, so she figured she was at low risk of embarrassing herself) she passed by a few classrooms- all empty, of course- until she came by a door all the way at the end of the hallway that led to the hospital wing. I wonder if anyone's in here? she thought. Rita had only been to the hospital wing twice- the moving staircase incident in her first year, and last year when her friend Amy had been sick. She knew she was lucky she'd been there so infrequently- the last thing she wanted to do was be sick or injured- but at the same time, the process of healing injuries and illnesses interested her, and she wondered what it was like to be a doctor or nurse. After hesitating for about half a second, Rita slowly opened the door and walked in.
At first, she thought it was empty. None of the beds were full- which was a good thing- and it didn't look like there were any doctors or nurses in there, either. Sighing in resignation, Rita figured she might as well give up on trying to find anyone who she could talk to. I guess I'll go back to my common room, or my dorm, or something, she thought. She was about to turn around and leave when she saw the shadow of a person on a curtain that was surrounding one of the beds. "Oh, hi!" she exclaimed as she ran over to see who was behind the curtain, a little too eager to have someone else to talk to. "I didn't see you there at first; I thought there was nobody here."

Chris stood behind the curtain laying on one of the beds resting. aka, sleeping on the job. "God its soooo slow today... why aren't any kids breaking legs or.. like punching people in the face... or being turned into frogs or something." he sighed. Right then he heard the door open. Finally, he got to have some fun. Chris decided he was going to pull his favorite prank. He pulled latex gloves out of his pocket and put them on with a snap. Man he loved that sound... actually one of the reasons he became a doctor... so he could fill those things with like cream cheese and stuff and drop them on people. But he'd never let his patients know that... they were in great hands... he was a great student that studied very very hard to get where he was....yeh right. Upon hearing the voice, Chris realized it was a girl of some sort... or it was a boy who hadn't quite hit puberty... or he just inhaled a poop load of helium... or he just got kicked straight in the giblets. But Chris was gonna go ahead and guess it was just a girl. But that'd make his prank even funner... cuz well who doesn't like seeing a girl go around flailing her arms and scream like a psycho person. Pulling the curtain back enough just for him to step out but not making the bed visible. "I'm a bit busy here.." he said as he held up his hands that had the latex gloves on. But the gloves appeared to be covered in blood. " I mean... we can stand and chit chat... But I'll just have to tell Timmy's mommy that I couldn't save her son... because i was busy talking about the new fashion sense thats all the rage.. " He let that sink in a second before, smiling and saying "I'm kidding... this is paint.." he said taking the gloves off and flicking them to the side. "Soooo... walk with me talk with me.." he said as he walked back toward his desk. "Whatta ya got... Measles, mumps, chicken pox, stomach flu, broken arm, broken wrist, broken fingernail..." He said turning and stopping right in front of her. He looked down at the girl. She seemed like a good kid. "Or do yah just want a hug?" he said looking down at her. "...im kidding.." he said and smiled. With that he turned and continued walking to take a seat behind his desk. He kicked his feet up on his desk, and sift through the drawer nearest him. Finally pulling out two suckers. "Here" he said handing her one. "So whats your name kid?" he asked with a grin.

Scampering towards the curtain, Rita was excited at the prospect of having someone to talk to after hours of sitting by herself with no company other than her own thoughts. "Hello?" she called again, since whoever it was hadn't responded. A moment later, the curtain was pulled back slightly, and a young doctor stepped out. She was about to introduce herself when her gaze fixated on his latex gloves- they were completely covered in blood. Her eyes widened. Oh, god, she thought to herself. It hadn't occurred to her that she could've been interrupting a doctor in the middle of a major operation; she didn't think anyone would be in the hospital wing with a serious injury even before the term started.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry," Rita replied, when the doctor told her he was busy. "I didn't realize-" Oh, fuck, now someone's son is going to die all because I came frolicking in here wanting talk to someone. She stood there, completely at a loss of what to do- she'd been in awkward situations before, but never one where a person's life was hanging in the balance. The doctor smiled at her- at least he wasn't mad, she thought- and then informed her that it was just paint. Oh, that's a relief....wait...WHAT?! She gasped at the realization of what the doctor had just told her. There hadn't been any blood or any lives in danger; in fact, looking behind the curtain, Rita saw that there wasn't even anyone on the bed. She was confused for a moment, but then it hit her- the doctor had played a joke on her, and she'd completely fallen for it.
"The gloves...oh my god, it looked so real...the blood...you scared me," she admitted, reddening slightly in embarrassment. She couldn't believe how easy it had been for him to trick her. At the same time, though, she was impressed- he had done a very convincing job of making the gloves look bloody, not to mention he'd been a pretty good actor as well. I guess if I was trapped in this place all day with nothing to do, I'd come up with weird ways to entertain myself, too, she thought. In a way, she and the doctor had been in a similar position- bored, all by themselves, with no one to talk to and not much to do.
All of a sudden, the doctor started walking toward his desk, and began listing possible ailments to try to figure out what Rita needed. "Oh, no, nothing's wrong-" Rita broke in. "I'm not hurt or anything, it's just that...well, there isn't really anyone here, and I've always been interested in what it's like to be a doctor...and I just kind of wanted someone to talk to." She couldn't help but feel slightly awkward after making that statement- although it was true, she realized how weird she must sound, going into the hospital wing completely healthy just to find someone to talk to.
Just a moment or two after she'd finished speaking, the doctor turned around sharply and stopped right in front of her. Caught off guard, Rita crashed right into him, unable to stop walking in time. "Oh, fuck-" she immediately clapped her hands over her mouth, realizing what she'd said. "I mean- oh, god, I'm sorry...are you okay?" she asked? Fortunately, it looked like he was pretty much unharmed. He continued toward his desk and sat down, taking two lollipops out of his desk and holding one out to her. "Thanks," Rita said, surprised yet grateful for the candy. Realizing she hadn't answered his question, she added "Oh, my name's Rita. What's yours?" He looked to be pretty young; Rita doubted he'd been around in her first year when she'd fallen off the staircase, or at least she hoped he hadn't. Now that would be embarrassing...she'd already completely fallen for his prank and then crashed into him, to have him know what had happened to her then would just top it all off.

Well, sadly there was no flailing of the arms... or running around screaming. Which now that Chris thought about it, may not been such a good thing. I mean him, standing there with what appeared to be blood all over these latex gloves, and her running around screaming like she'd just experienced extreme pain... if someone walked in right there... that wouldn't have looked good. So thankfully none of that happened... the girl just kind of stuttered and then was embarrassed. "Did i trick you? I think I did!" He said and laughed before they started to walk down towards his desk. "Sorry for scaring you... maybe... I don't know if I'm sorry or not yet... it was quite histarical... so it may have been worth it." "Nothings wrong?" he asked curiously. But Rita continued on. "Ahhhhh I see... little case of the boredeniums... Well... it seems you came to the right place then because I am a doctor... and I'm also incredibly entertaining." And just then she ran right into him. It barely phased him... I mean she wasn't very big. It wasn't like Tom, when back in there student days, Tom would slide down the bannister and then WHAM, smack right into Chris. He made quite a few visits to hospital wing for those kind of hits. "It's quite alright... you may want to find faster reflexes though... Especially if you're going to play quidditch or something... you'd be hit with a bludger so fast it'd make your head spin... and then you'd have to come in here... and i'd have to treat you and are you starting to see the pattern forming here?" Turning around he took a seat at his desk, and handed her the lollipop...as it was so chosen to be called in Rita's post... New Yorkers...ppfftt. Anyway, he listened when she told him her name. "Rita eh?...not ringing a bell..." he said trying to think, but then he just gave up... thinking was for loooooosersss. "Christopher Rivers.... Dr. Christopher Rivers... you can call me, Doc, Doctor, Dr. Rivers, or just Chris." he said nodding his head. "So you want to be a docor... gonna try and take my job... Cuz i won't let it happen alright... I got bills to pay... I HAVE A FAMILY TO FEED. " Taking his feet off his desk and sitting in the upright position to make it more dramatic. "My daughter... little Kimmy... will have to just... go hungry...and die... and my wife.. my beautiful... smokin' hot wife... will become ugly... by the simple fact that she will weigh 12 pounds... " It was like the Olsen twins all over again. But of course he was kidding about all this... he had none of these things. He was just going over the top with it... for fun... like usual. "I'm kidding... So what do you want to know? About the fame? The glory? The ability to tell a very pretty woman that you just saved her son from imminent death... and then possibly... but not necessarily... getting some?"

Mike Blaze had been on his way up to the hospital wing. He figured Chris would have some ice so Mike could began relieving the strain in his arm in preparation for the Quidditch Season. Last year his arm had started tensing alot, making it more and more complicated to swing the Beater's bat at precise momentum, but then after icing his arm, quite like those Muggle pitchers do during that sport called baseball, it felt better. He had tried magic on it before, but that didn't seem to do the trick, which was odd.
As Mike was outside the door of Chris's office, he heard talk of Quidditch, apparently whoever he was with was thinking of joinning for Quidditch, maybe a Ravenclaw student? His interest picked up as they needed more Ravenclaws for their team this year.
Mike walked in, his facial expression went from interest to boredom as he saw the student turned out to be, not a Ravenclaw, but a Hufflepuff, of course. Then at Chris's ever so dramatic performance of all the things he said could go wrong if he lost his job Mike spoke at a time which seemed to be right, fitting into the whole dramatic feel, and hearing the whole but not necessarily... getting some?" he smirked and starting laughing as he spoke, "Uh bad time, Dr. Rivers?" Mike asked approaching the desk.

Chris didn't pay much attention to whoever walked in right away, because he was in the midst of his dramatic performance. But once he finally finished and the student spoke up he turned to see who it was. " Mike!!" he said standing up from his chair. "Theres five good ones for yah." he held out his hand for him to shake. He wasn't sure why he always said that when he went to shake someones hand... he just liked the phrase. "Nooo... noo.. not a bad time at all... just talking about the birds and the bees.... Hey have i ever asked you how old your mom is..." he trailed off and began to plot. Yes, Mike could come in... and we'd pretend he was like... i don't know having a heart attack... Chris would call his mom and say her son was in severe condition. She'd come down to hogwarts and Chris would save her son. And he could be all 'well ma'am...some may call me a hero... but i'd just like to think... I'm just doing my job...'
ohh yes, that line would be a killer. "I'd get more action then a Greek god..." ehh, Mike's mom was most likely much too old for him anyway. And then he just realized he just said that stuff about the greek god out loud and he decided to change the subject. "... Ohhh uh... Mike this is Rita... Rita this is MIke..." He said introducing the two. Unless they had met before... then that would be pretty embarrassing. "I mean.. unless you guys already met... I don't keep track..." he said and laughed. "Soooooo... Mike... what brings you here to these parts?.. Need something? Or did you just come to chill with the awesome Chris dizzle?" gotta love the izzle's... they work with everything.
"I'd give you a lollipop but I'm not sure if i have any left. " He said as he shoved around the papers on his messy desk. "...ohh.. well.. I never pegged you as a sucker fan anyway... if yah know what i mean." He said and laughed. Good thing he wasn't talking to like a first year... cuz then they actually may not 'know what he means'. Those first years seemed to be a bit oblivious to those sexual innuendos. Ohh well... they'd learn eventually. "I got Rita here with that paint on the latex glove trick..." he figured Mike would know what he was talking about. Because he was sure he pulled the same thing on Mike back in the day. Maybe back when Mike was a fourth year or something.

Mike shook Chris's hand, after hearing the old question Mike swore he heard hundreds of times before he said, "Chris.. you'll never have a chance with my mom." smirking, "Anyways, even if I told you, you'd just pull that old trick of contacting her, telling her I had fell off a roof or something and was near the light, when you miracously saved me. I know you." he said grinning and reached to shake his hand.
After hearing the whole "I'd get more action then a Greek god..." Mike began laughing, "Same old Chris, eh? And I believe I've seen Rita around, once or twice." he explained nodding at the girl. "Anyways, of course, my first thought was to come in just to come in to chill with the Chris... dizzle. But I figured while I was at it, I could get some icedizzle? Quidditch season starting up and I figured as Ravenclaw captain I need to warm up before practices begin, and need to ice my arm up a bit." he explained.
"...ohh.. well.. I never pegged you as a sucker fan anyway... if yah know what i mean." "Yes i know exactly what you mean," Mike said grinning, and don't worry I never was a sucker fan." he added, laughing. Chris was always one to pull jokes such as this at the most random moments. "Ahh, the old paint on the latex glove trick, yep you pulled that one on me twice, once in third and fourth year." Mike said thinking back to those times.

"Oh, no, I'm not-" Rita protested, in response to Dr. Rivers' comment about her making an attempt to steal his job, but as he went on about the tragic effects that his job loss would have on his daughter and wife, she became pretty sure he was exaggerating in an attempt to trick her again. A moment later, her suspicions were confirmed when he told her he was kidding. He certainly has a...different sense of humor, Rita thought to herself, but she couldn't help but be somewhat amused by his over-the-top stories. At least her visit was proving to be interesting.
Rita thought she'd have a whole list of questions lined up in her mind, but when Dr. Rivers asked her what she wanted to know about being a doctor, she wasn't sure where to start. I guess I could ask him why he chose this job, she figured, shaking her head but unable to hide the amused expression on her face at his comment about "getting some," as he put it.
She was about to ask him why he became a doctor when she heard the door open behind her; startled, she jumped slightly. Turning around, she saw that it was an older Ravenclaw boy- he looked vaguely familiar, but she didn't know his name and wasn't sure if they'd ever met. It appeared Dr. Rivers knew him well, though, due to the friendly and familiar manner in which he greeted him and the way he sprung immediately into conversation. Not wanting to be left out, Rita added in, "Yeah, we learned about the Greek gods in Muggle Studies...they really did have a lot going on in their lives...always dealing with war...and throwing thunderbolts around, and stuff..." It hit her a second later that that wasn't exactly the type of action the doctor had been referring to. "Oh....never mind," she said, mentally kicking herself for not thinking before speaking.
Thankfully, her embarrassing moment was cut short when Dr. Rivers introduced her to the boy, whose name was Mike. "Hi!" she said, eager to make her last statement disappear as quickly as possible. "It's nice to meet you...and yeah, I think I've seen you around a few times, too," she said in response to his comment. Dr. Rivers went on to tell Mike about how he'd tricked her with the paint on the gloves- oh, great, now he's going to laugh at me, too, she thought, but was relieved to hear that he'd pulled the same exact trick on Mike.

"AND WHY NOT?!?!?" He said taken back. Never have a chance? "Why... is she like still married or something dumb like that..." Kids and there non-dysfunctional families... ughh... why couldn't they just be like everyone else and have divorced parents, step father that they hate, and a couple step brothers or step sisters that they find mildly attractive. "Or do you just not think I'm studly enough... cuz ohhhhh...ohhhhh you'd be soooooo wrong.. I got game." he said nodding his head. Tom and Chris could surely walk into a club and totally get all the attention... or at least... thats what they'd like to think. ;D Chris turned to Rita and raised an eyebrow when she went on about thunderbolts or something. "Watch out Mike... We have an innocent mind over here.. proceed with caution. " he said and laughed. "Im just kidding... do you get what i mean now? Or should I elaborate." For her own benefit she may want to say that she got it now... because if he elaborated... it'd get pretty graphic to say the least. And her innocent mind would be WOOSH goingggg goiingggg GONEEE.. that innocent mind would just overload with images... probably run out of that hospital wing.. and then once again he'd have to explain to the headmaster why some poor girl was in her dorm crying about giblets and bajingos. "icedizzle??? Yehhh sure... i can hook yah up with some ice... one sec..." he said. He went to the back, to see if he could find some. "I...know... it's...around...here...somewhere..." he said shoving things around. Finally he came back with a small bag of ice. "Here yah go." he said tossing it too him. "ooohhhh yehh. I did get you twice with that one didn't I?" he said and laughed. Man he loved that trick. "Sooo, Mike... who's your latest squeeze?... How about you Rita... yah got a special someone?" he asked. He mainly asked this about students, cuz it was hard to keep up. Take Mike for instance, he was sure that kid went through girlfriends like he went through... ermm.. idk..... things that are gone through a lot.

"Watch out Mike... We have an innocent mind over here.. proceed with caution. " he said and laughed. "Im just kidding... do you get what i mean now? Or should I elaborate."
Mike moved next to Rita leaning over, "For your own sake, just say you get what he means. If you get him started, he'll go on for hours, and honestly the explanation itself isn't pretty." Mike said smirking, he had made this mistake one, long ago probably in his third year. Young, innocent, little Mike Blaze had questioned one of Chris's figures of speech, the explanation still scarred him to this day.
Mike watching Chris as he searched for the ice, caught it as it was tossed him to. Mike gave him a nod as well as a small, "Thanks". He took the ice putting it over his arm which felt the most tense at this point. At the question about Mike's main squeeze he started grinning looking down at the floor with the ice still applied, already feeling his arm get less tense. "Well... there is one girl this year." he said with his grin, "Audrey Hitchcock, Gryffindor, she's my year. Extremely cute girl." he said, thinking of Audrey now, Mike would've totally gone into more adjectives about her, hot, gorgeous, the most friggin best girl in the world, but with Rita there, he thought best not to, he could always inform Chris later. "We had been friends for a while... and this year, my feelings changed... and yeah... asked her out, and she said yes." Mike could've gone into more elaboration on the whole story, but he figured it would be best not to. "What about you Chris," Mike said elbowing Chris in the ribs lightly with the elbow he was not busy icing, "Any teachers this year you got your eye on?" Mike said remembering one year, he couldn't remember which, but Chris had his eye on the previous librarian.

"No...I got what he meant," Rita said quickly. "It's just at first when he said it...I didn't think....yeah," she trailed off, hoping they would understand what she was talking about. She knew she came across as innocent-minded and uncorrupted to many people, but she knew a lot more than people expected; it's just that sometimes it took her a few moments before she realized that the meaning of what people said actually was the less innocent version.
Rita watched as Dr. Rivers went to get a pack of ice for Mike, who gratefully put it on his arm. It's amazing what wonders ice can do, she thought. Back when she was twelve, over the summer after her second year at Hogwarts, she'd had a continuous bad headache over the course of six days, and she hadn't known what to do about it. When she finally went to her father about the problem- she'd been hesitant to ask her mother, since she had a tendency to overreact and worry more than necessary, and Rita didn't want to have to go to a doctor or hospital if she could help it- her father told her that when he had headaches, it always helped him to open the freezer and just put his head inside. The idea had sounded a bit ridiculous to her at first, but when she'd actually tried it, it had only taken a few minutes before her headache was gone.
"How about you Rita... yah got a special someone?" The doctor's question caught Rita completely off guard; she'd never expected the conversation to go in this line of direction. Then again, with his comments about getting action and hoping that the attractive mothers of students would perform sexual favors for him out of gratitude for saving the lives of their children, she supposed she probably should have. "Um...no," she said. In all honesty, Rita hadn't given much thought to guys in her three years at Hogwarts, other then the ones she was friends with. There were a few that she'd thought were good-looking, but they'd either already graduated or she rarely saw them, leaving no opportunity for her to get to know them and even consider the possibility of wanting to go out with them.
Mike, however, had apparantly had more luck in that department; he launched into a story about how he'd started going out with a girl in his year who he'd been friends with, and, eventually, developed feelings for. "Oh, congratulations!" she said, not really sure what else to say. She couldn't help but be amused when Mike began to question Dr. Rivers about his love life, however; she was sure that whatever the doctor had to say would be entertaining, or at least interesting.

"Audrey... Audrey....Audrey... Hmmm... I'm not sure... Do I know her?" He asked. As if one of them would just happen to know. 'oh yes Chris back in January on the 17th... I have the records of all the people you have met right here.' That would be pretty creepy actually... they'd have to be stalking him. "I knew.. I saw someone sneaking around in those bushes..." He said aloud. "...I mean... no I don't think i met her... Probably have seen her around... just don't know her by name... yet... that is until i find her and tell her about your... umm... bed wetting problem... OOPS..." He said clasping his hand over his mouth. then he put his hand down at his side and continued. "...was that suppose to be confidential.... gah there i go again... breaking that doctor patient confidentiality rule.. " He was kidding of course... Mike doesn't wet the bed... Well.. at least he didn't think so. But Rita doesn't know that does she? So right about now she might be thinking Mike wets the bed... and thats pretty embarassing... but also quite funny. "No but thats awesome... glad you found someone... think they'll last eh eh eh?" he said nudging him. "Gonna propose?... Mike and Audrey sittin by the whomping willow tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G... First comes looooooove... then comes marriage.... then comes a little Mike jr. in a baby carriageeeee...." He paused for a second after his little solo. "... Im mature..." He heard Rita said no... man... wasn't a very talkative kiddo eh. "Well... keep trying... I'm sure you'll find someone... unless your not looking.. then well... just have fun being a kid...... god i miss it every day...." And Chris was gone... back off into his little reminiscing world of the good ol' days as a student. Only to be awoken by the nudge Mike gave him. "oh me?!?!" He said snapping back out of it. "...Dude... I've been scoping it out... and the results have been slim picken's yah know... but remember we still have our deal... you report back to me if any of your teachers are particularily... umm... good lookin'..."

Moki was on her way to the hospital wing. There wasn't anything actually wrong with her (at least not physically... mentally was another story), but she enjoyed feigning illness so she could talk to the doc without raising any eyebrows. I mean, he was almost as good at playing practical jokes as she was (he'd say he was better, but she knew the truth), and usually gave her a good laugh. She wondered vaguely who his victims had been today. And let her mind flick over the possibility of playing one or two jokes on him while she was there.
"So, Mike wets the bed, huh?" Moki asked with a giant grin as she entered the infirmary. She looked at Chris. "Nothing wrong with me today... and hey, don't you give me that look, I am perfectly sane, despite what you seem to think!" She scowled at him, putting her hands on her hips.
Moki looked at the other visitors. There was a young blonde who looked about her age - shy, innocent-looking thing... Moki spaced out for half a second, contemplating the possibilities of corrupting her, before snapping back into reality and turning her attention to the older guy (she assumed this was the aforementioned Mike) who was currently talking to Chris about sexy staff members - hey!
"I'm not sure that's legal," she pointed out, and turned to the blonde, who was looking rather uncomfortable and standing shyly a safe distance from the conversation. Moki sauntered over to her. "Hi!" she said. "I'm Moki. Fourth year Slytherin, 14 years old, blood type O negative, I like People magazine, beating up puppies, and stealing money from orphans!" She nearly fell over at the expression on the girl's face. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding," she assured with a cocky grin.
