Hey, I know I'm new and all, but I figured you guys could use a few suggestions. As far as I'm concerned the site have a great plot, and the layout is not what you call dreadful, but it didn't knock me off my socks either. So, hopefully a few suggestion of mine could help you out =]
1) Work on the layout, simpler the better, stick to one skin at a time, multiple skin usually left forgotten anyway. 2) Make sure you have at least ONE active admin, as in people will see s/he at least an hour a day - not just appearing, but RPing, doing administrative job, etc. 3) Keep the staff, positions, etc simple and straight to the point; Staff, Gryffindor, Goblins, etc. and stick to simple colours that are not too striking, but don't chose the one that blend too much either. 4) Make sure to stick to the book. Honestly it would be bloody strange to see two headmasters, two Head of House of Ravenclaw, etc. Everyone wants title, they're pretty and nice, but it's bloody annoying to see seven different unnecessary titles just to make your friends happy. Trust me, half of the so call friends never stick around on site anyway, they just like the flashiness. 5) So, the school term have yet to start, kick it off with something else. First, you're lucky, the site is not named "Hogwarts -insert something here-" or "-insert something here- Hogwarts". That means you can create a huge world, various type of RPs. It only means, stir something up already. Post a huge news, make something up to get people going. 6) OOC contest is also another good outlet to let member continue to participate, have a weekly game, or marathon etc. Whatever you can pull off. Pick ideas from other sites but do not plagiarize! 7) Keep things organize. It's always good to be able to find things easily. It makes people less frustrated and find it enjoyable to stick around. Adding links to the info box on top of the site is a wonderful way to go.
Okay, I think that's all I've got to say right now. Don't take it the wrong way. I just hate it when a site with potential and idea die out just because they're not organized or welcoming enough.
By the way, it'd be nice if you don't let people wait too long to get sorted, etc. Most lose interest because they have to wait too long.
Kay, that's all, Rory

Hello, Rory. My name is Sam. 1. Skins are a rather difficult thing for us. I'm not saying we're incapable, but we certainly not fantastic at it, either. I personally like the default skin (of which I had no affiliation with, so don't think I'm being biased), but it's also true that opinions differ. 2. I used to be active, but then school life got in the way -- no, I'm not just making excuses. I would think that with four admins, activity of at least one wouldn't be a problem, but I guess we all have lives that get in the way... (Others would just use that as an excuse and not a reason.) I've gotten back to the Internet, though, so hopefully I can get more active; I can't, however, speak for the other three. 3. I had no choice of the colours, so I can't speak here. I will, however, look through them and have a talk with the other admins. If there's something in particular you can recommend, please send us a PM. 4. I couldn't agree with you more! You can ask the other admins -- I stress the books. This is, after all, an RPG based off the book series, and I personally can't stand when people are so... non-canon. I mean, yeah, there's always creative freedom, but even sticking to the canon aspects, there's still plenty of freedom. 5. We plan on the term starting very soon, I assure. However, this being a new site, we're waiting for something just that -- big and exciting. If the admins throw stuff out at the members every time, it really takes away from the creative freedom. As opposed to literally doing all the work, we hope the members can come up with something brilliant, too -- we know they can. 6. I agree. Me and Salina (we argued over whose idea the contests were in the first place, so we're both taking credit) thought contests would be a great idea, but with out recent inactivity, we've been a little... unable to do much else. I can't speak for Evan or Chris, though, and I really don't want to; I need to have a little talk with them. :/ 7. Yeah, I've been meaning to add them, in case you hadn't noticed -- I put up a few ideas, but I hadn't gotten around to putting in the links. I know, "excuses, excuses," but it's really not; I don't want my real life to interfere -- it just does. Thanks for your comments, though! Suggesting something is always good, whether or not you think it's rude; after all, this is a brand new site and we need constructive criticism. Also, about the Sorting, I can't say much for that; whenever I'm on, I usually Sort them right away, but I haven't been on lately, so I don't know how the others have been handling the site. Sammius
