Lesson One -- Whaaaazzup, children?

[Thomas Middleton]

Shiiiiit. Term ... started ... today. Like, at this very moment. Any minute now, students would be filing into the Arithmancy classroom. Beads of sweat rolled down Thomas' forehead, you know, like they do in those Anime cartoons. Mmmm, Asians ... ANYWAY. Tom wiped at the sweat with the back of his hand, hoping to hide his nervousness from his students. He wasn't sure why he was so anxious, it's not as if he had never taught before. He'd taught for a couple of years, actually. But this year, he seemed a lot less prepared than the years before. The Ravenclaw alumni had spent most of his freetime over summer ransacking the kitchens and clubbing. Not lesson-planning. Damn.

Once the students had all filed in and taken whatever seats they liked (seating chart? Yeah, right; Tom had never liked them in school, and he wasn't going to make his students suffer the same brand of torture), he opened his mouth to talk. Only, well, no words came out. Tom cleared his throat with a nice, satisfying sort of grunt, then tried this whole thing again. Thankfully, words came out this time, and surprisingly, they formed coherent sentences! Woooo, rock and roll, baby, rock and roll!

"Yooo, kiddos! My name is Thomas Middleton, Professor Middleton, Professor Tom, whatever you wanna call me, I'm not really big on the whole name thing ... Unless it's Tommyboy. Don't anyone in here ever call me Tommyboy," he added, glaring at the students as though daring them to try. Most of them seemed to be Ravenclaws, so hopefully they showed him respect. If they didn't, he would be forced to take points away from his own House, and he really didn't wanna do that. "This is Arithmancy. If you didn't already know that." Wow, how lame. Shrugging it off, Thomas decided to plow right onto the point of this lesson -- which was actually rather pointless.

"Seeing as today is the first day of classes, I figured we'd take it easy ... Just sort of relax, ya know? Because I have absolutely nothing prepared and if I try to teach anything valuable, I'll come across looking like an idiot." Tom let out a soft, light chuckle before continuing. "All we're gonna do is introduce ourselves. Please state your name, year, House, something interesting about yourself, and maybe something you know about Arithmancy. If you don't know anything, that's fine, but knowing what you guys have already learned or something would really help me out, so I don't overdo it. Sooo want me to start? Don't worry, I will!

"My name is Thooomas Middleton, as I said earlier. I'm a Ravenclaw alumni, and now Ravenclaw Head of House, because I'm just that cool. Something interesting about me ... hmmm, well, I've traveled a lot, been to places like Japan and the United States. Cool, right? As for what I know about Arithmancy, I know quite a bit, so I won't even bore you with all of the petty details." Tom smiled encouragingly at the students, hoping that they wouldn't be afraid to speak up, or anything. He wasn't too much older than them, so hopefully they didn't find him scary or intimidating. More like sexy.

[Julia McIntyre]

Julia sat in class admiring the amazingly sexy Thomas Middleton. She totally wished he was younger so it wouldn't have been illegal to have... fun. But good things come to those who wait. Julia was making such strides this year, she hadn't hooked up randomly yet, she had a hot new best friend, and she was being patient. But it was killing her. But it was all for her daddy. He asked her to stop having so much fun and to actually go to class. She couldn't say no to the man who gave up his dreams for her, that would be just wrong.

She continued to gawk at the hot professor. She so wanted to do some extra credit. She stood up to introduce herself. "I am Julia McIntyre, I am a fifth year Ravenclaw. I like to have fun, if you know what I mean, and I am not ashamed of it. I know absolutely nothing about Arithmancy, I just join this class for the hot guys," she said happily. She sat down agian and resumed staring at Thomas.

[Mike Blaze]

Mike Blaze walked down the halls, checking his watch, late to class. Whatever, he knew Professor Middleton was cool and wouldn't be mad and a few minutes being late wouldn't hurt anyways. He finally approached the door. Before pushing the door open he heard Professor Middleton telling the class of his plans for the day. After Professor Middleton finished, he heard another familiar voice, Julia. After she finished her introduction, Mike pushed the door open, "Mike Blaze, Ravenclaw sixth year, I've played Quidditch for the last four years and I'm the Captain of the Ravenclaw team this year," which he already knew Professor Middleton knew, seeing as Professor Middleton had suggested Mike to be Captain. "As for what I know about Arithmancy.... you teach it." Mike said grinning, he saw where Julia sat, once he gave his introduction, he walked to where she was, lowering himself in to a seat near hers, he looked at her giving a small nod, "Hey."

[Katarina Devanport]

Katarina set at her desk towards the middle of the class. She wasn't going to lie, she wasn't even looking at Professor Middleton as he spoke, instead she was occupying herself with sketching a tree on a piece of parchment. However, this doesn't mean she wasn't listening intently to what her Head of House had to say; and when he mentioned introductions, her hand stopped. Immediately, she could feel the blood rush to her cheeks and her stomach twist in knots. She despised speaking up in class... there was nothing more tragic than saying something stupid or making a fool of herself.

She watched as Mike to his seat and slowly, and a bit shakily, she rose to a stand. "I'm.." she cleared her throat "My name's Katarina Devanport. Call me Kat or Katarina- Kitty, and you will suffer" she smiled a bit to herself as she gained a little confidence. This wasn't going to be as bad as it had been in the past "I'm a sixth year Ravenclaw and...." she hesitated for a moment. Something interesting about herself? "I'm a Catcher this year for our house team and I have a theory that house elves place small ammounts of an addictive drug into their cupcakes because I'm addicted to them. Correct me if I'm wrong, Professor, but isn't Arithmancy a form of Divination? Only it's based on mathematics instead of intuition." She, for the first time, lifted her gray eyes up from the ground to meet Professor Middleton's.

[Julia McIntyre]

She was so engrossed in staring at the professor she didn't even notice Mike or the other girl enter. She was startled when Mike talked to her, "Ummm... ooohhh..." was all that came out of her mouth at first. She gathered her thoughts and was able to string them together into something that made sense. "Hey Boo," she whispered, grinning at him.

[Mike Blaze]

As Kat recited her introduction Mike added in at the part where she explained about being on the Ravenclaw Team, "Best Quidditch team in the school who is going to win the Cup." he stopped right after saying this so not to interrupt the rest of her intro. As she sat down after her intro, Mike grinned, leaning towards where Kat sat, he said quietly, "Nicely done." and pulled back sitting up straight in his chair. As Julia leaned over, whispering Hey Boo to him, he smirked, "Too interested in Professor Tom to notice one of your best friends coming in?" he said quietly, adding a very quiet laugh to it as well.

[Julia McIntyre]

"Do you blame me? He's gorgeous," she whispered dreamily, "We had a nice chat up in the tower the other night, he is so like me it is scary. We would make a cute... not couple... but of course he would like lose his job if he laid a hand on me, or I on him, and that would not be good." She put her elbows on her desk and rested her chin on her hands.

[Katarina Devanport]

"Nicely done."
"Ah, yes. Thank you m'dear." Kat smiled a bright smile and tossed a curl behind her back triumphantly.
Her gazed turned to Julia. She was on the quidditch team as well... played opposite of Mike. She was nice enough, certainly pretty...
"Do you blame me? He's gorgeous,"

She released a quiet laugh, which sound much more like an escape of air from her mouth, and looked back at her professor. "Well... it certainly won't be too hard to pay attention. That's for certain." she gave a wink to Julia and then proceeded to continue her drawing.

[Mike Blaze]

Mike smirked as Julia leaned on her elbows, staring at Professor Middleton. Typical Julia he thought to himself. When Kat added in with the "Well... it certainly won't be too hard to pay attention. That's for certain." "Not you too." Mike said, surprised to hear Kat speak up with this, then he just shook his head, "Girls..." he said smirking. What did they see in Professor Middleton anyways, he was a cool guy that was for sure, maybe he needed a girl's mind to get the rest of his answer, Guess I won't be finding out anytime soon... he thought to himself.

[Julia McIntyre]

"That's for sure." She laughed a little to loud. Whatever. He wouldn't give a detention to his favorite student. "Whatever, like guys don't ogle the female professors," she said shaking her head. Why were guys so dense? "That Hunter guy couldn't take his eyes of the Flying professor, face it, guys are just as bad, if not worse?" she said rolling her eyes. She turned her attention to the other girl "I don't beleive we have met, I am Julia."

[Katarina Devanport]

That Hunter guy couldn't take his eyes of the Flying professor, face it, guys are just as bad, if not worse?"

Kat smiled and shook her head. "You obviously don't know Hunter very well... He would have sex with a tree if it didn't give him spliters." She giggled a bit at the thought of Hunter actually trying and turned her attention to Mike. "And for your information, I was merely commenting that he seemed cool and wouldn't be hard to pay attention to.." A lie "If I really and truely wanted him, I wouldn't drool from my desk, I'd jump on him." Well... if I could...

"I don't beleive we have met, I am Julia."

"Kat. Nice to meet you"

[Juliet Rutherford]

Late as usual Juliet thought to herself as she entered the Arithmancy classroom just as a certain older Ravenclaw girl sat down from her introduction. Juliet's chestnut hair was left down in it's natural loose curl state and her uniform was crisp, which was shocking considering the run she had made from the Slytherin Common Room to the classroom.

As she walked to an empty desk in front of three Ravenclaw student she spoke up "I suppose since I'm already standing, I'll go next. My name's Juliet Ruthorford and I'm a fifth year Slytherin. I love socializing, challenges, and coffee." She ended with a smile and sat down in her desk.

[Emily Atkins]

Emily took her sweet time arriving at arithmancy. The world would wait for her... and if it didn't, it wasn't important anyway. Entering the classroom, she noticed that introductions were going on. A Slytherin girl in her year was speaking; without waiting for her to finish, Emily took a seat. As the Slytherin - who introduced herself to be known as Juliet - sat back down, she deduced that she was the only one left and mentally sighed. Class intros were really quite a drag, and the last person she wanted to talk about was herself. Somebody else, perhaps, considering there was some good dirt and a premise for gossip, but herself, never. She guessed the professor hadn't noticed her entrance (that Julia girl in her house was staring intently at him, no doubt he was revelling in the attention), because he didn't ask her to speak. Realizing she would have to take care of her own business, she remained sitting, but managed, "I'm Emily Atkins. I'm a fifth year in Ravenclaw and my favorite color is orange." That was one fairly safe personal detail. Nobody's favorite color ever destroyed their social status. She ignored everyone else around and concentrated on whatever the professor was going to teach.

[Andrew Levesque]

Andrew walked slowly in to the classroom, he knew he was late of course but he had heard that Professor Middleton was cool so maybe he wouldn't be in much trouble. He noticed a Ravenclaw girl entering the classroom farther up the corridor. Well, maybe he wouldn't be alone in detention if he was wrong about Professor Middleton. Finally making it to the door, he slid in, glancing towards Professor Middleton who was at the front of the classroom, then the same Ravenclaw girl he had seen before was now making her introduction. As she took her seat, Andrew realized it was his turn, before he had even found a seat. "Uhh... I'm Andrew Levesque, sixth year Gryffindor, to be totally honest, I know nothing about Arithmancy, but I'm interested in learning anything I can..." he said with a shrug. Then he turned his attention to the class, no Gryffindors, four Ravenclaws, and a Slytherin... surveying the Ravenclaw group, he saw Katarina who he had spoken with before, she was GORGEOUS. Then Julia, which Andrew then knew where he'd be sitting, but to his surprise, he saw Mike Blaze sitting near Julia. Well, might as well get to know my competition.... Andrew shrugged to himself, and took a seat on Julia's other side, opposite of Mike. "Hey you." he said nodding at Julia with a grin.
