The hallways were deserted. Honestly, school wasn't started yet but still. Maeve tromped through the school being utterly and completely bored out of her skull.
The redhead wore a white t-shirt emblazoned with a logo advertising the Twisted Sisters whom she still liked even though they were considered Oldies now. Tossing her twin ponytails around like a frustrated horse Maeve tried discover which way could take her to the kitchens. She had become slightly lost, it happens when the staircases decided to change on you in mid-step. Having exited the wrong floor without realizing it, now Maeve was having problems finding the staircase again.
Yes! She'd found it. Maeve ran toward the staircase just as it started to move. Taking a rather risky jump she landed on the staircase in it's mid-shift. As if it were confused the staircase ground to a halt. In mid-air. Maeve looked down horrified. Granted it wasn't that far to jump...if you were a bird. Jumping up and down on the thing and cursing at it didn't seem to help much.
Finally, the first year tried to call for help, hoping that it wasn't a teacher that answered her call. "Hello? Anyone willing to help me out?"
While waiting for an answer she tried jumping again, "Merlin's Bones! Curse this stupid staircase!" She kicked the stone staircase only to bruise her foot. Now she was hopping on one foot, too close to an edge she didn't want to be on.

Moki was waltzing joyously back from the trophy room, having succeeded happily in scaring the pants off several first-year Ravenclaws from inside a suit of armor. It was a rather dull day around the castle, but she knew how to make her own fun. When she had finally managed to extricate herself from the metal contraption (resulting in the arrival of several new dents in the armor and a verifiable cocktail of dirty language), she found the third-floor halls deserted. Moki wondered briefly if the terrified first-years were behind this. She decided it was improbable; anyone over the age of twelve was probably getting a laugh out of it if they'd heard.
She twirled playfully in the middle of the hallway, feeling spontaneously euphoric. She was half-skipping when she heard a faint voice that seemed to be coming from the stairways. She stopped dead, listening curiously.
"Merlin's Bones! Curse this stupid staircase!"
That sounded like a cry for help if there ever was one. Moki frowned and, shrugging, took off jogging in the direction of the call. She was surprised - and amused - to find stranded on the randomly-stopped moving staircase a very annoyed-looking first-year girl. Moki raised an eyebrow in confusion, leaning over the railing.
"How... in the name of Merlin did you get there?" she asked. Biting her lip, she considered the more important question of how they were going to get her out of there.

Maeve stopped hopping and stared at the newcomer, her fair skin was blazing scarlet from a combination of rage, exertion, and now embarrassment and her red curls were falling out of their ponytails. Having stopped her hopping, she now overbalanced and fell onto her rear.
"Ohhh Grrr!" No curse words could encompass her feelings at this last helping of indignity. Not exactly the way she had imagined introducing herself to the inhabitants of Hogwarts.
"How... in the name of Merlin did you get there?"
Biting her lip Maeve tried to calm down and decided holding a conversation while trapped on a floating staircase might just fall under reckless. However, since reckless might as well have been her middle name...well, just go with it girl, she thought. So leaning on the railing in as a casual a manner as she could manage, she smiled at the older girl.
Conversationally, as if she were strolling the lawns not trapped on a staircase, she replied, "Well, I almost missed my ride and had to jump for it. Honestly, I don't think these things are used to people jumping on them and it just well..." she gestured helplessly at the staircase underneath her. "I take it this doesn't happen often?"

Moki boggled. "I take it this doesn't happen often?" "Not... not that I've ever seen," she said slowly. "Alright, now, how are we gonna get you off of there... I suppose I could try a levitation spell... 'course, that would require you to put quite a bit of trust in me, and considering we just met... well, I mean, we could..." she thought a minute, then climbed over the railing and hung by her ankles over the edge. "I think I could reach you if you stretched. But then, I doubt you're quite eager to hang over the stairwell. Hmm." She let herself hang limply as she thought. "You got any better ideas?"

As the older girl tossed otu ideas Maeve leaned against her railing and thought. No, she wasn't too eager to go for it but if that was the only option. She wasn't too sure about the levitation spell herself. Trusting magic wasn't as hard for her as it was for most Muggle borns but she would have had an easier time trusting an adult's magic than a student's.
Feeling like a daredevil she carefully edged out on the railing. When she stretched she could just about grab th eother girl's hands. Stepping down form the railing she laughed a little breathlessly.
"Ok we can try the whole stretch and grab thing. In case it err doesn't work..." Her voice trailed off as she looked down over the railing and the other staircase she would hit if she did fall. "My name is Maeve Campbell, ok?" Grinning she realized her wish for adventure had come true. In a most embarrassing way, yes, but still it was adventure.
Again, Maeve edged out onto the railing and then standing up tall she reached for and grabbed Moki's hands. Uh-oh now what if she can't pull me up? , Maeve thought somewhat in a panic.
Out loud she tried to sound confident, "I'm pretty small, if you can just get me high enough to grab the railing on your side I should be able to climb up." She looked up with her pale turquiose eyes trying to meet the other girl's gaze to see how confident she was of this plan.
((no worries....figured this was better than a hi how are you Im so and so thread... >_< ))

Moki really hadn't been expecting the other girl to take that offer seriously. Quite a leap of faith, she thought. While Maeve climbed carefully onto the railing, Moki took the opportunity to reinforce her stance... it really wouldn't do to have both of them falling as a result of poor positioning. She made sure there was no way her feet could slip from where they were anchored, then squeezed her eyes shut as Maeve reached towards her. "Moki Kagawa," she said with a grin as she caught the younger girl's hands in her own. Thankfully, she was a bit of a lightweight, and while Moki herself wasn't much bigger, she wasn't a weakling, either. She could definitely pull her up... but not like this.
"Grab one of my hands with both of yours," she instructed Maeve as the two hung carefully suspended over the stairs. "I don't have any way to pull myself back up without at least one of them. You won't fall if you hang on tight - I won't let go of your other hand."
OOC: Sorry... bit of a transition post.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy, thought Maeve. She wasn't really capable of thinking anything else. It was rather a panic attack that she was doing this. Still it was much more preferable to staying on the staircase until a teacher or other adult noticed her.
Staring up at the other girl, she realized that she was trusting her life if not body to a complete stranger. Her parents and family would say this is typical of her jumping into things without thinking. Ruefully, Maeve reflected that she really had 'jumped' in without thnking this time. Jumped right onto the staircase.
"Grab one of my hands with both of yours, I don't have any way to pull myself back up without at least one of them. You won't fall if you hang on tight - I won't let go of your other hand."
Holding her breath in case it gave her slight frame more weight, Maeve slid her increasingly slippery hand over to grab only one of Moki's. There was a terrifying moment when her hand almost missed Moki's and she dangled there for a split second with only one slippery hand in the older girl's grasp. Her vision darkened momentarily and when Maeve finally flailed the other hand to where it was holding onto Moki, she found she had tunnel vision. The only thing she could or would see was the small hand that her two even smaller ones held in a death grip.
Expelling her breath slowly, Maeve just stared at this hand as if she had never seen one before. Trying to talk Maeve cleared her throat, "Uhhmm, If you can j-just get m-me a little higher I can grab the r-railing there." Oh Merlin's Bones, Beard, and well-other things, she sure hoped the older girl wouldn't drop her too soon.

Moki saw Maeve's hand nearly miss her own and had to suppress a gasp. She wasn't trying to traumatize the girl, after all... she was probably scared enough with her life in the hands of somebody she'd just met. But quickly, Maeve grasped her other hand, and Moki laboriously pulled herself toward the railing, where she grabbed the round peg of the banister in her free hand. Now with enough support to hoist Maeve up, she pulled the other girl toward solid ground. As she watched as Maeve would pull herself to safety, she wondered what they must look like, Maeve hanging over the balcony and herself clinging to the banister like a monkey. She just hoped no teachers happened to walk by. She wasn't keen on detention before classes even started... although it wasn't unprecedented.
OOC: Oh yo I realized I didn't introduce my char to you so I just edited the previous post so now you actually know her name. Ha. Memory fail.

((its ok sorry it took so long..they are remodeling my house and my computer was down for a couple of days))
As Maeve felt her body scrape up the railing she felt weightless with relief. As her feet found a place on the railing she let go of Moki. Bending over the railing, still on the wrong side, she let herself relax for a second. She was out of the woods even though she was still not completely safe. After the small redhead caught ehr breath she heaved herself up and over the railing to collapse dramatically to sit against the railing.
"And here I thought it would be boring around here!" Not that she actually thought anything of the sort but it sounded good. Grinning at Moki, Maeve patted the ground next to her. "Take a load off, Moki. You deserve it after hauling this heavyweight up." With a little laugh to show she knew she was skinny Maeve patted the ground next to her again.

"And here I thought it would be boring around here!" Moki laughed at Maeve's comment. "You ran into the wrong girl for a boring time," she said with a grin. Hopping over the railing, she plunked down next to the first-year, who looked very relieved to no longer be dangling fifty feet above a moving staircase. Moki was rather sorry the adventure was over, but decided it was a bit too much responsibility for her to hold somebody else's life in her hands anyway. She didn't mind causing moderate trouble or injury, but she wasn't looking to kill anyone. Especially not first-years. Maybe some of the sixth or seven- well, never mind that.
"Let me guess," said Moki with a knowing look. "Gryffindor? You gotta be in Gryffindor. Imagine a Hufflepuff doing that. Ravenclaws would be too smart to go for it. Maybe some Slytherins would... but only to see if they could pull it off. You've got some serious guts."

"You ran into the wrong girl for a boring time,"
"Well, that's good to know. I won't avoid you then!" Maeve returned the older girl's grin. She gave Moki a quick once over. May be a Slytherin but seemed pretty cool for one. Maeve figured anyone could be a friend if they wished to cause havoc and mayhem. She wasn't one to be concerned about house loyalty, unless it was on the Quidditch pitch.
"Let me guess, Gryffindor? You gotta be in Gryffindor. Imagine a Hufflepuff doing that. Ravenclaws would be too smart to go for it. Maybe some Slytherins would... but only to see if they could pull it off. You've got some serious guts."
Maeve shrugged a bit, recalling all the admonitions she had gotten from her parents over her reckless behavior. "Guts, no brains. That's what my mom and dad would say. But yeah, I'm in Gryffindor. I always am pulling off stuff without thinking it through first. I'm pretty lucky though, usually comes out all right for me."
Sitting up straighter she looked keenly at Moki. "I might have guts but then so do you. You also got the brains though. Not many people would have stopped to help me. Most would have ran for a teacher. 'That' would have really been a bloody mess. Detention before class starts, a new record, eh?" Giving a short but sincere laugh Maeve sat back.
She hoped she had conveyed her appreciation to the other girl. She had a real problem with two phrases, 'I'm sorry.' and 'Thank you.'

Moki's grin grew wider as Maeve spoke. "That's great, though, really. I love people like that. I know some people who have really awful luck, like, they get into bad situations and then get busted for it... ALWAYS. Lucky people are much better. And they have the added bonus that if I hang with them I probably won't get into trouble." She laughed at Maeve's roundabout attempt at thanking her. She really didn't care if she'd been thanked at all, really, because the stairwell incident had given her a smashing grand adventure the suits of armor hadn't been able to. Yeah, that'd been amusing, but in a very fourth-grade kind of way. Not that it diminished the comic value of the stunt, just that Maeve's predicament had really let her break loose. She mentally noted that Maeve's sense of a good time seemed to be quite similar to her own. They could probably be friends despite the age difference. Moki didn't mind corrupting younger students. It was pretty much a pasttime.
"I might have guts but then so do you. You also got the brains though. Not many people would have stopped to help me. Most would have ran for a teacher. 'That' would have really been a bloody mess. Detention before class starts, a new record, eh?"
"Mmm..." Moki sighed nostalgically. "It's happened to me... but hey, putting flobberworms in Doohinger's pants during the Sorting Ceremony was totally worth the three weeks of creepy Forbidden Forest detentions. You shoulda seen the look on his face. I nearly peed myself laughing. I think that's how I got caught, actually. Everyone else was convinced he was having a seizure. I was laughing my arse off, though... a bit suspicious during a seemingly life-threatening situation. And gawd, running for a teacher? So not my style. It would have been so anticlimactic."

((sorry this is gonna be short without italics this time...gotta call verizon and cuss them out! >_< ))
Maeve felt her face would split from grinning so wide. This older girl wasn't overbearing or bossy and she seemed to have a sensible sense of humor, from Maeve's point of view anyways.
"We might just have to see what kind of trouble we can cause together. Like I said I rarely get caught and when I do I can make my baby face." Here Maeve pulled a woebegone face and made her eyes glisten with tears. "I'm so little that I can usually get away with practically anything. Until the people get to know me though." Here she sighed theatrically.
As Moki imparted the knowledge that she had been in the Forbidden Forest, Maeve's eyes widened. "Wow! I so want to go in there! I have heard so many stories about it. Back when that Voldemort guy was all powerful and stuff. That would be worth a detention to me!"
Not having experienced many detentions, Maeve was excited at getting to know Hogwarts. Detentions weren't exactly a threat to her especially if they let you go in the Forbidden Forest. Joining Moki's laughter, Wicki could imagine the older girl pulling the prank. This, she felt, could be the beginnings of a beautiful friendship.
"Hmm, I wonder what kind of havoc we can cause right now? Too bad they don't have Muggle fire sprinklers. Those are always fun." Maeve's voice trailed off as she tried to think of something 'fun' to do.

Moki sighed wistfully. "You're so lucky. Even when I was younger, no one believed my puppy dog eyes for a second. I guess I'm just one of those people that trouble follows around. My mama used to tell me there was always mischief in my eyes." She laughed in amusement at her own problem.
"Wow! I so want to go in there! I have heard so many stories about it. Back when that Voldemort guy was all powerful and stuff. That would be worth a detention to me!"
She raised an eyebrow. "You like a good scare?" she asked. "Damn creepy in there. Centuars aren't very nice, though. Still got their panties in a bunch 'cause Firenze still hangs around with humans. But yeah, it's a neat place, provided you stick to what you know. I've heard stories about the sort of things that live in there..." she shivered at the thought.
"Hmm, I wonder what kind of havoc we can cause right now? Too bad they don't have Muggle fire sprinklers. Those are always fun."
Moki nodded in agreement. "Love this. I've met two people this week now who love making trouble. Actually, before I found you, I was just down the hall there in the trophy room, hiding inside a suit of armor. I scared the living daylights out of some Ravenclaw first-years. It was bloody good fun. We can always wander around and see what kind of havok we can wreak on this castle, though. Good opportunities for mischief practically jump out at you if you know how to take advantage of them." She jumped up. "You wanna see what we can find?"

"You're so lucky. Even when I was younger, no one believed my puppy dog eyes for a second. I guess I'm just one of those people that trouble follows around. My mama used to tell me there was always mischief in my eyes."
"Well it only works with people who odn't know me well. I also get this feeling that I as a grow older it will lose it's effectiveness." Here she heaved a heartfelt sigh and pulled a comical face.
"You like a good scare? Damn creepy in there. Centuars aren't very nice, though. Still got their panties in a bunch 'cause Firenze still hangs around with humans. But yeah, it's a neat place, provided you stick to what you know. I've heard stories about the sort of things that live in there..."
Maeve's eyes widened in glee and anticipation at Moki's description. Quick to defend herself though she spoke, "It's not a scare I'm looking for. I love forests and creatures. I know that Irish fey are completely different from the British fairy. It's not that I'm a bookworm but I do like meeting new creatures." Maeve shrugged a bit. She knew she wasn't a scholar but some of the best memories she had were of chasing pixies into her siblings' rooms and teasing the local pookas until they threatened to take her on the ride of her life.
"Love this. I've met two people this week now who love making trouble. Actually, before I found you, I was just down the hall there in the trophy room, hiding inside a suit of armor. Looking over at the older girl Maeve couldn't help but laugh. Scaring first years?! Sounded like fun. Granted she was a first year, but...still. She could imagine the look on the kids' face as a suit of armor suddenly clanked to life. Definitely her sense of humor.
"So who is the second person you have met?" As Moki jumped to her feet Maeve imitated her action. Her weariness had vanished at the prospect of finding more 'adventure'. "Sure! Where to?"
((OOC: so sorry...thought I had responded to this but apparently not.. doh!))
