”No” George agreed as Maeve mentioned the arrows. George certainly wouldn’t want to cross paths with one of those. Maybe though George’s luck had just come to an end as he heard an unfamiliar voice start to speak. Looking up from the bush they were hiding behind George caught sight of the centaur that they had supposedly been hiding from. Apparently the bush hadn’t been the best hiding place but according to Maeve George was. He didn’t mind Maeve hiding behind him in fact he would do the same even if it was a bit woosy to admit so he just wasn’t sure about this centaur especially the way he spoke. Of course George was just making assumptions but the centaur didn’t seem too happy with their presence in the forest. George felt a little uneasier as the centaur leaned into him. By the way he was speaking Maeve was alright but himself and Moki were kind of in the middle. "These two however are not quite adults but not quite foals either" When asked a question George was slightly unsure how to respond but luckily Moki did it for him ”I agree” George piped up deciding that he should add something rather than leaving it all to Moki ”We have done nothing wrong” That of course could be open to some kind of interpretation.

Maeve had cowered quite nicely behind George even though the others seemed quite cool about the situation. As George and Moki confronted the centaur Maeve felt a bit of a wimp and crept out from behind George. She was about to put in her own two cents when something very surprising happened.
The centaur threw his head back and laughed. Very nicely in fact. After a moment or two of laughter he stopped and said in his deep voice, "I apologize for scaring you. It isn't often I get to pull the angry sentry act on anyone." The centaur bent his head in a regal nod to the three children. "You may continue on your way. You have not yet encroached upon our lands." Lifting a well tanned arm he pointed toward the deep forest. "You can go that way if you wish. Just not beyond me."
The centaur began to walk away and then paused to look back. With one last twinkle in his eye he spoke, "If I were you three I would tread carefully. The Forest isn't as dangerous as it used to be but it isn't exactly safe either." With that good natured warning the centaur disappeared into the thick overgrowth.
Maeve was stunned; that had been amazing! Before anyone else could say anything, she piped up, "I knew it was all right. You two were so scared! You should have seen your faces!" Her eyes twinkling merrily, the little redhead skipped around the two teenagers, sticking out her tongue.
"So where to next? I heard there are giant talking spiders and unicorns and..." Maeve's voice trailed off as she looked at the two hopefully.

As George agreed with her, Moki continued to eye the centaur warily. However, her relief was genuine when he assured them he had been joking. "Thanks," she said to him with an ironic half-smile as he disappeared. Good grief, that had been scary.
"UNICORNS!" Moki hollered rather loudly. "I wanna find some! Not like I haven't seen one lately or anything but... well, you know how some people are dog people and others are cat people... well, I'm a unicorn person. Don't ask, I guess it's 'cause my mom's a muggle but... anyhow. Let's just be careful not to go into the centaurs' lands!" She made a somewhat frightened face.

George stayed pretty much still as he waited for the centaur to reply to them. He was hoping that he would ‘forgive’ them and let them pass. However there was still a part of the situation that niggled at him. What if the centaur really didn’t appreciate them being there. It was quite a pessimistic way to think but either reaction could be a possibility. George sighed happily as the centaur told them that they could continue on their way unharmed. George’s opinion on the creatures had certainly changed since originally spying the creatures. Giving the centaur a thank you nod George carried on walking.
It was probably a good idea that they had met the centaurs rather than some other creature. There was still that possibility but right now George had totally forgotten all about that he was looking forward to exploring the rest of the forest. It was so large that it would take them hours if they choose to explore the whole thing. George was quite happy to just do whatever the girls wanted to do. It had afterall been their adventure and he was just tagging along by pure chance. Running a hand over his hair George let out a small breath before smirking at Maeve.
”Well Maeve” He chuckled ”You were sitting pretty considering you’re apparently a foal” His chuckle continued as he poked her gently in the side. When asked where they should go next Moki soon piped up explaining that she wanted to see some unicorns. George had seen and touched a couple in his life time but considering they preferred females he would hang back if they did find any so that the girls got to interact with them. Moki did after all seem quite keen on them and he didn’t want to ruin their chances of getting close.

Maeve dashed around them only halting when George made his comment about her being a foal. Stopping in her tracks she attempted to look haughty. This is a difficult feat when you are tiny compared to the other person. Trying to look up at George while simultaneously looking down her nose Maeve spoke, "I am not a foal! I am almost as old as you!" Which in her convoluted way of thinking this was quite true. She was almost twelve which meant she was almost a teenager which meant she might as well be sixteen. Don't you love logic?
Sniffing a bit she started stalking ahead of the two older kids. Tripping over a branch she fell flat on her face. "Bugger!" Maeve grumbled. She sat on the springy mossy ground to wait for the other two to catch up.
((ok Moki take it away girl...we gonna see unicorns?)))

Moki clapped a hand over her mouth as Maeve went flying to the ground. She felt the urge to laugh, and despite feeling that it was rather a mean thing to do when somebody might be hurt, could barely resist as the young girl fell on her head. "Oh man!" she said, although it came out rather muffled since her hand was still on her face. Maeve seemed okay, but she stayed where she was, waiting for George and Moki to reach her. "That was really convincing, Maeve," she said with a small smile. "Way to prove your point!" She hoped Maeve wasn't too sensitive. She had a capacity to be something of a tease, although she meant it in good fun. As she and George caught up to where the small redhead was sitting, she clapped her hands together with a wide smile. "So, you guys ready, then?" she beamed. "I know where to find them. Like I said, I'm kind of a sucker for the things, so... I know a bit about where they hide." She held a hand out to Maeve to help her up. "I know they don't really like guys, but... maybe it will be okay. They are pretty familiar with me around here... I think I have earned their trust so maybe they'll give George a chance." With a pleading look in her eye, she cast a hopeful smile at the Ravenclaw.
From what she deduced, they were still not far into the forest, only a couple hundred yards or so at most. She wasn't sure what direction they were currently facing, but she knew the unicorns were due south. This would have been something of a conundrum but for the fact that she had taught herself the Four-Point spell for just such a purpose. Bending down, she placed her wand on the flat ground and said, "Point me!" The wand spun and faced what she knew now as north. Pointing a finger in the opposite direction, she informed George and Maeve, "It's that way! So... follow me!"
With a direction in mind, it was not hard to find the path that she had used before to reach the unicorns. Moki usually entered through a small cove at a point west of the forest. Today, they'd come in more from a northern angle, but there were lots of paths in here. It was no joke when people talked about how easy it was to get lost if you didn't know where you were going. As she let Maeve and George down one path which stretched on for what seemed like a rather long time with no end in sight, she began to become worried. While she was certain that they were not intruding upon centaur lands, she wasn't familiar with all the forest's inhabitants, and she knew it. What she was looking for was a small row of sparkling gems marking a path that she knew led to the unicorns. Somebody had probably placed the stones there years ago, as she doubted they had appeared naturally, but it was a very helpful landmark. A growing fear in the pit of her stomach was starting to bother her greatly the longer they walked with still no sign of the faint shimmer of the unicorns' path. The forest was getting darker and darker.
Moki put on what she hoped resembled a confident face as she one again murmured "point me" to her wand. Breathing a sigh of relief, she noted that they had definitely gone south, yet it was odd that there had been no sign yet of what she was searching for. "It... shouldn't be too much longer," she said, hoping that despite the help of the wand compass, they hadn't somehow ended up hopelessly lost. But what were they to do about it? They couldn't simply stop moving. She didn't think that George and Maeve knew where they were, either.
She walked about fifty yards further, and stopped. There was a definite light shining through the trees up ahead. With a reassuring look at her friends, she pointed at the glow. "Check that out," she said. "It looks like we've somehow come to the edge of the forest again." While it wasn't exactly what she'd been hoping to find, it sure beat being lost. "Let's go towards it... even if it takes us out of here we can regroup after we figure out where we've come out." Walking towards the light, Moki noticed that strangely, although it was growing brighter, the trees didn't seem to be thinning around them. Maybe this wasn't the forest's edge after all...
Blinking, she led them to the source of the light, trying to readjust her eyes to the brightness. When her vision was restored, she gaped at what they had found. A clearing was before them. In its center was a crystal-clear pool of quietly trickling water, from which a dazzlingly white unicorn was drinking. Moki had never been here before. Yet she recognized the animal in front of her. It was a beautiful male unicorn she had observed in other places throughout the forest. As she stared in wonder, another, smaller white unicorn trotted out of the woods, followed by a tiny foal. "They must be a family," she said in excitement, her face lighting up.
[OOC: Sorry, long post. I just didn't want it to be like... here are the unicorns out of nowhere.]

Maeve stuck her tongue out at Moki before allowing her to help her up. The little redhead hadn't really been mad but it had sounded good. Right up until she fell. Oh well, on with the rest of her life, right?
Following Moki wasn't that hard. Even though she was short it wasn't hard to keep up because the forest slowed the two older students down. As Moki continued to use the Direction Spell Maeve memorized it herself. That would be a good one if you knew basically which direction you needed to go in.
Maeve had started to become discouraged though. Her feet were starting to hurt and she was starting to lag. A few times she had grabbed George's shirt tails to avoid being left behind. Good thing for her he was such an easy going guy.
As they entered the clearing Maeve's sigh of relief was lost in her gasp of awe. They were in the most gorgeous setting imaginable. If Maeve could have picked a place to live forever it would be this spot. As the unicorns began trotting out gracefully she felt her breath trapped in her lungs. They were gorgeous. This was different than seeing them in a book or a class. This was their true setting. Her voice was soft as she replied to Moki, afraid she would startle the unicorns, "They are gorgeous! I think they are a family too. Should we approach them or let them approach us?"

George’s grin faded a little as Maeve seemed to be a tiny defensive about being called a foal. As George thought about it, it did sound like he was calling her a child making her sound younger and immature. ”My apologies” George replied a little unsure how she had worked out that she was nearly as old as him. The fifteen year old was a couple of years older than her. Then again George didn’t have Maeve’s way of thinking so there was no way that he was going to understand what she was saying. Was it also a female thing? His sisters often spoke about things that he didn’t understand. Poor little George, all confused. Maeve soon speeded off again living George and Moki behind. Either they were too slow or the young girl was a little more eager.
George hadn’t noticed that Maeve had fallen until he heard her grumble about it. At least the ground wasn’t wet and she had fallen on some soft moss. When Unicorns came up in conversation George couldn’t help but be interested. He’d always like magical creatures so the forest was one of his favourite places. When Moki informed them that she knew where they were he followed closely hoping that his presence didn’t disturb them. ”Hopefully” George nodded as Moki mentioned that hopefully they would allow George to interact with them.
If George was a few years younger maybe he could get away with it but he was approaching his last few teenage years. George also looked a little bit older than his fifteen years so that didn’t help. Watching Moki putting her wand down on the ground George watched as it spun around and then settled on a direction. Still following closely George continued walking sure that they would soon find the unicorns. He was still thinking over the idea of wishing that they would accept him. He understood that they preferred the touch of a female but he really wasn’t there to hurt them and hopefully they would sense that. The trees in the middle of the forest were a lot thicker than that of the outside edges and the whole places was a lot darker.
With no wand light they could very barely see but with a little wand light they could make stuff out. Strangely enough however the forest soon lit up, as they seemed to be approaching what Moki thought was the edge of the forest. George had always thought that the place was bigger than that but obviously he was wrong, or was he? Moki had actually led them to some Unicorns. George had seen quite a few Unicorns over the years but the sight never got old. Sticking close to the girls George watched as the three of them began trotting around. George nodded as Maeve called them gorgeous ”I agree” The sight was quite spectacular.

Maeve crept closer to the unicorns holding out her hand. She so wanted to touch the baby. It was so precious! When she got too close however the smaller unicorn stepped between her and the baby and lowered it's head. Thining it was going to attack her Maeve quickly dropped her hand and stepped back. The shining white creature stepped forward again and nuzzled Maeve. It wasn't trying to attack her it was just trying to keep her from the foal.
Smiling broadly Maeve looked over her shoulder at the other two. She kept her voice soft but in the silence of the forest her voice carried quite well, "Check it out, you guys! This is awesome!" She turned back and laid her face in the mane of the unicorn and inhaled it's sweetness.
